We Are.

Every year, the state officer team gets the opportunity to sit down and create a theme for the year. I remember past themes like “Experience the Legacy,” “iBelieve” and “Give2Grow.” Each of these themes represented what the respective team wanted their year to look like, and what they wanted to accomplish. Now, creating state themes is by no means an easy process. We spent an entire afternoon with Sheryl Meshke of AMPI working on theme development procedure, and it still took us another month to come up with our theme.

When preparing for SGLC and SLCCL this year, we learned a little bit about generations. Our generation has been named Generation Y, and by some, Generation I. Why I? Our generation is very I focused. Even in our culture, look at all of the I stuff. iPod, iPad, iPhone, and other non-Apple products. But we started thinking… We are FFA. We aren’t “I” focused. There are 9,200 of us in Minnesota, and over 500,000 across the United States. We are involved in something bigger than “I.”

When you really think about all the adjectives that make us awesome, it’s pretty amazing. We are proud, we are skilled, we are strong, we are diverse, we are capable and we are accountable just to name a few. We, as an organization and 500,000 individual members (including the best 9,200 members that reside in Minnesota), have an amazing arsenal of characteristics that make us the FFA.

We also know that what we do, and the things we represent would be impossible without some very important people. These include our FFA Alumni, FFA Foundation, Ag Teachers/FFA Advisors, and the partners that support our organization. Together, we are the FFA. Needless to say, the 2011-2012 state officer team has decided to be very “We” focused this year.

And with that, our theme for the year is, “We Are.” This represents all the great attributes that FFA members have, all the characteristics that make us great, and all the people that make it possible.

Check out the video! If you want a little extra fun out of our theme video, look up “The Interlude Dance” on Youtube, and learn the dance to our theme music. We would love to see 3,000+ FFA members jammin’ out to the video at convention. You guys rock!

Stationed by the Door,
Dustin Smith
